This is a four to five hour ride that leaves from the glaciers, passes the coast and ends in the beautiful lakeside town of Wanaka.
This is a well used route, but favoured by bikers, thanks to the fun and enjoyable riding you can get along the way. Your route takes you out of the high glaciers on a lengthy descent towards the coast. At Haast you’ll leave the coast behind and travel along a well maintained road through Mount Aspiring National Park, a flat earthland than offers some long turns and gradual, sweeping bends to enjoy.
Head southwards out of Fox Glacier on the SH6, which takes you the whole way into Wanaka.
Best Thing About This Ride
The route is easy to follow with no turn offs or junctions to take, so you can sit back and enjoy the ride. It offers the chance to travel through different terrains and see a variety of country views.
What Else to Look Out For
This is also a popular place for the police to visit, so keep an eye out for those cameras. And keep and eye on your fuel, because there is a premium to pay in the outlying fuel stations.
