Ride Summary

A fairly long ride at 35 kilometers, this route has a 90% corner ratio, featuring corners that can be taken at a slow to fair speed. The road surface is smooth, and the bitumen grip is good. Cars are rare on this road, and you are likely to go longer than 10 minutes without seeing one.

Ride Description

A very good ride, the Eildon to Big River Bridge run is a good sporting road and has the advantage of being used by very little traffic, giving you plenty of opportunity to play. There are two types of bitumen making up its surface – white and standard bluestone – but each give the same good grip to your tires.

You can get in plenty of good swervery on this road, with its high corner ratio, but the views are not spectacular despite its nearness to Lake Eildon, because of thick eucalyptus growth. Most motorcyclists turn back at the Big River Bridge, although it is theoretically possible to continue on to Mt. Buller over a road surface which has transformed from bitumen to dangerous dirt.

Directions

The road is found by turning off just outside Eildon onto the road that runs along the south shore of Eildon Lake.

Best Thing About This Ride

The best thing about this ride is the ability to experience almost constant swerves and bends with a good road surface under your tires.

What Else To Look Out For

Road litter is very common on this road, and 4WD vehicles are an occasional risk when one comes speeding around a corner. In the winter, the thick eucalyptus forest causes the road to stay damp constantly, and slippery lichen grows on the bitumen at this time.
