Ride Summary

This is a most enjoyable 32km ride from Hahndorf through Verdun, Woodside, and Mt Torrens to Birdwood.

Ride Description

This ride from Hahndorf to Birdwood is a contribution to your interest of history. The town of Hahndorf is not just a ‘touristy’ city, but a historical tribute to Capt. Dirk Hahn who brought the settlers here from Prussia in 1839, and the German heritage which still rules it. The sausages alone are worth the visit. There are great shops with merchandise of an authentic historical value, not just cheap bric-a-brac.

The ride leaves Hahndorf heading northwest through the towns of Verdun, and Balhannah to Woodside. Continuing on from Woodside, you will pass the through Mt. Torrens before you chuck a left and find yourself in the historic Birdwood. Birdwood is a favorite destination of bikers due to (among other things) it’s National Motor Museum. This is famous for its constantly growing collection of Motoring historical memorabilia of special interest to bikers. With the recent addition of Bill Mitchell’s Motor Cycle and Heritage Museum, and the bikers favorite “Ace Café” at Birdwood, this really is a ‘can’t miss’ destination.

Directions

From Hahndorf, head northwest through Verdun; just outside town, turn right to Balhannah, continue through Woodside, past Mt Torrens (hill) to the town of Mt. Torrens, and finally, left turn to Birdwood.
