This two hour ride hugs the coastline on the western shores of the South Island and has been nicknamed the ‘Ice Run’.
Ride Description
This route offers some great riding, with high glacial passes and gravel trails to conquer. It was one of the original motorbike routes and is world renowned as one of the best rides available. You’ll pass through some historic countryside, and through Shanty Town and other local villages as you travel south, and there are plenty of opportunities to stop and experience what this part of the country has to offer.
Directions
Head south out of Greymouth on the SH6, and follow the trail through Hokitika and Harihari until you reach Fox Glacier.

Best Thing About This Ride
This is one of the original rides, and one that is descended upon year after year by bikers, so it promotes a feeling of camaraderie and awe. The views are simply stunning and you’ll get a warm welcome wherever you stop.
What Else To Look Out For
Bushman’s Centre is a favoured bikers resting place. They offer a unique road-kill dining experience, and promote the slogan ‘You kill it, We grill it’! Also worth checking out is Monteith’s Brewery which run daily brewery tours including beer tastings at the end of each tour.
