South Pacific Motorcycle ToursRide Summary
This route has got to be one of the world’s greatest motorcycling roads. A beautiful piece of winding road takes through native forest deep into the heart of the Fiord land National Park.
Ride Description
Starting with sweeping bends between mirror like lakes then ventures deep into native forest. It is not long before you find yourself riding through deep valleys with hundreds of waterfalls cascading down the cliffs on either side. Stopping for a moment at the Hommer Tunnel prepare yourself for a challenging decent through the mountain, you emerge in the middle of a high col with the road cut into the cliff. A few hairpin bends enable you to be back at the floor of another forested valley for the last 45 km’s of the ride. Ensure you take the opportunity to cruise the last section of the fiord with one of the many small cruise ships (about 2hours). The journey back is even better that the way in with the tunnel now becoming one of the high lights, as you accelerate up the tunnel with the sound of your exhaust and the exit up ahead it’s like being shot out of a canon.

Best Thing About This Ride
Beatutiful veiws and an amazing road.
What Else To Look Out For
The Hommer Tunnel on the decent is badly lite with an uneven, wet and poor road surface. NO FUEL so FILL in Te Anau.

Possibly my favourite ride in the country. Stunning scenery and great roads. Go early in the morning to beat the buses. Great in autumn – although chilly.
