Ride Summary

At 11 kilometers long and featuring a 60% corner ratio, this road is a moderate warm-up ride. Corner speed is medium throughout. The traffic rate is about one car every 10 minutes. The bitumen grip is good although there are a few bumps here and there.

Ride Description

A scenic ride through alternating swaths of eucalyptus forests and picturesque farmland, the Old Healesville Highway is a fairly quiet road with enough curves to make it interesting, but not as many or as sharp as on some other rides you may want to go on after warming up here. This ride curls its way through the foothills of the Yarra Ranges, and ends at Healesville, which, together with Yarra Junction and Kinglake, is a hub for good rides within the Yarra Ranges themselves.

Reaching Yarra Glen can be reached by two different routes. One is by taking the Mooroondah Highway to the Melba Highway, then taking that. The other is by following the Christmas Hills Road to the Melba Highway, then turning left. Old Healesville Highway branches off from the Melba Highway 3 kilometers past Yarra Glen on the right-hand side of the road. It is a good ride that both helps you reach and get prepared for the more challenging roads in the Ranges.

Directions

This ride is a back-road route connecting Yarra Glen to Healesville. Yarra Glen is sited some 45 kilometers to the east-northeast of Melbourne’s central business district.

Best Thing About This Ride

The attractive scenery along the route is one of the best things about this ride, as is the more laid-back selection of corners that helps you get ready for the exciting rides in the Yarra Ranges themselves.

What Else To Look Out For

Other than the occasional bump, the Old Healesville Highway has nothing extraordinary to beware of.
