Ride Summary

This long, 42-kilometre ride has a corner ratio of 70% and corner speeds of medium to high. Cars are encountered at a rate of around 1 every 5 minutes, but the bitumen grip varies from good to very good. There are occasional bumps, including some tank-slappers on the last 9 kilometres.

Ride Description

Snaking through dairy country along a ridge and the hills falling away from it, the Warragul to Korumburra Road offers lots of swervery and different kinds of bends and curves along its considerable length so that you can enjoy a good variety of maneuvering. The road is bumpy here and there, and there is often road debris from the diary farming in the area.

Visibility along the road is very good due to the lack of trees, and there are few intersections where you might encounter cross-traffic. The road is very challenging and includes every kind of bend imaginable. The first 10 kilometres out of Warragul are fast and smooth, with high-speed sweeping curves, excellent visibility, and a wide road. After this, there is a narrower, twistier section followed by a range of gentle hills which cause many medium to fast bends which are highly technical in character. There is also a single section of extremely tight “twisties” which lasts for only one kilometre. After the hills, a bumpy section of road about 9 kilometres long leads down to Korumburra.

The views along this ride are excellent, thanks to its route along the Strzlecki Ranges – the hills, besides being rolling, are verdantly green, the valleys between them feature blue streams that sparkle in the sun, and you can see a good distance over this bucolic terrain because the trees were cut down by the convicts and early settlers, creating an open landscape at the same time as they inflicted great damage on the environment.

Directions

Warragul is 100 kilometres east-southeast of the Melbourne central business district. Reaching it is fairly simply – take the Princes Highway, which leads directly to it, and then turn right on the Korumburra road, which places you immediately onto this ride.

Best Thing About This Ride

The ability to enjoy a whole panoply of different curve and bend types while savoring beautiful farmland views at the same time is the finest part of the Warragul to Korumburra Road.

What Else To Look Out For

Due to the rural activity in the area, you should expect both mud and cow dung to be on the road surface at various places. The last 9 kilometres between the Ranceby intersection and Korumburra are extremely bumpy due to milk tanker damage, and this is the area you can expect tank slapper bumps. There is usually some light road work being done at some point along the road, but this is typically clearly signposted and will not be a surprise. There is also a handful of blind corners to watch out for in the latter end, towards Korumburra.
