Ride Summary

The Sundial Carpark Road extends for 10 kilometres, with a corner ratio of 90% and corner speeds of very slow to slow. You are likely to encounter a car every two minutes or so on this ride. The bitumen grip is good, and the surface has occasional bumps.

Ride Description

This narrow, twisting road has a lot of grip and plenty of very sharp corners to negotiate. Oncoming traffic is a dangerous problem because of the habit of most drivers of using the center of the road. The landscape is beautiful, with rainforest edging up to the road in most places. The Mount Williams Road, whose entrance is 14 kilometres south of Hall’s Gap, is considered to be a better road.

Directions

This ride is found in the Grampians, 8 kilometres south of Hall’s Gap, where there is a turnoff for the Sundial Carpark Road on the right-hand side while heading towards Dunkeld. The road connects up to the Hall’s Gap to Zumsteins Road.

Best Thing About This Ride

The numerous twisty sections of the road are by far its best feature.

What Else To Look Out For

Given the narrowness of the road and the lack of lane markings, and the fact that the road is only a few centimeters broader than the width of two cars, you are likely to encounter oncoming traffic driving in the center of the road. There is also often bark and plant debris on the road from the surrounding forest.
