Ride Summary

A long tour from Melbourne to Adelaide via the Coonawarra wine region and the beautiful Coorong NP.

Ride Description

In my opinion one of the better ways to travel by motorcycle from Melbourne to Adelaide (in this case to Strathalbyn). Other than following the main freeway out of Melbourne towards Ballarat, the rest of the tour takes in great country that winds through wine country (Coonawarra) towards the coastline of South East SA. From here the ride follows the coast through the Coorong NP on the way to Adelaide.

Directions

Head out of Melbourne on the freeway towards Ballarat. Take the Ballarat exit and follow the signs towards Hamilton, and then on across the border into South Aus and towards the Coonawarra wine country.  Take a well earned rest! The ride then continues towards the coast and town of Kingston SE, heading then north up the Coorong coast towards Wellington. Cross the mighty Murray River at Wellington, and head towards Adelaide via the Fluerieu Peninsula.

Best Thing About This Ride

The change of environment heading out of Victoria and into the drier state of South Aus. The road that winds up the Coorong coast is also great fun, just watch out for police on this stretch as it is a popular road.

What Else To Look Out For

Kangaroos and other wild life.  Avoid riding at dawn or dusk.
