Ride Summary

The Strath Creek to Broadford ride stretches for 16 kilometers, which are graced with a 70% corner ratio. Corner speeds range from slow to very fast. Cars travel this road at a rate of around one every 10 minutes. Bitumen grip is good, but the road surface does suffer from periodic areas of bumps.

Ride Description

A slightly varied ride, this route also offers an enjoyable blast to Broadford – a hub for reaching interesting rides in Central Victoria’s western portions, such as those around Macedon, Trentham, Lancefield, and Pyalong. The road is not extraordinary, but it is moderately interesting and is the key to reaching other riding possibilities, so it is well worth following.
The opening section offers fast corner-turning possibilities, then ascends through a cutting where sharp corners that require slow corner speeds can be found. Finally, the road evolves into an area of gentle, sweeping curves through eucalyptus-dominated landscape, with a few bumpy areas to beware of.

Directions

Located seventy kilometers due north of the central business district in Melbourne, Strath Creek is accessible by taking first the Whittlesea to Flowerdale Road, and then the Flowerdale to Strath Creek road, both of which are rides in their own right. Take a left at Strath Creek and you will find yourself on this ride, which culminates at Broadford.

What Else To Look Out For

The bumpy sections of bitumen scattered here and there along the ride’s length need some caution, but for the most part this is a quiet, relatively safe ride.
