Ride Summary

This is a good day trip that departs Geeveston and travels about 28 kilometres to the Tahune Forest Reserve in Tasmania. Once there, you can avail yourself of the Taswegians latest addition to their efforts to provide everything a tourist (or local) could want in the way of entertainment, including the Tahune Air Walk. You have been warned!

Ride Description

The ride is easy; just head south from Hobart to Geeveston along the Huon Highway. There is a well marked visitor‘s centre at Geeveston where you can buy souvenirs/gifts/snacks and also your ticket for the Air Walk. Once tickets are in-hand, head out of town along Arve Road through the forest. The road deposits you by a cozy café at the beginning of the Walk. It’s a good idea to make arrangements to stow your loose gear or make arrangements to leave it at the café for safekeeping.

If you’d like to challenge your biking skills on the return trip to Geeveston, look for a turnoff (on the right) for Waratah Lookout. This is a short trip, but the road is one way, gravel and rough. It is also quite steep, so be warned. If getting up is tough, getting back down on the same surface will be just as tough, so if you’re having difficulties, turn back!

Directions
